BE 8.6 to 10.1 migration - backward compatibility concerns

Good Morning,

My organization has been working with BE for windows 8.6 since installing it a number of years ago (when it was current).

We are now finally getting around to moving to the latest supported release (10.1?), and have some questions regarding our position after migration.

Does anyone know if BE 10.x has problems reading BE 8.6 produced data backups?

I understand that there are many changes (advantages) when moving to the new product base; are there any show stoppers, regarding our plans to save and work with older (BE 8.6 produced) data backups; no doubt we will be asked to perform a restore immediately following our shift forward.

Can anyone recommend any documents (technotes) that would assist in migrating job and other settings to the new environment? Does anyone know if it is even possible to do so, given the jump in versions?

Thank you for your help with this!

Have a great day!

Regards,

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/263927.htm inplies that you ought to be able to install v10 directly over v8.x and everything should migrate forward automatiucally. The TechNote tells you how to manually migrate if you need to

As for v10 reading tapes created with prior versions, Backup Exec uses and has always used MTF (Microsoft Tape Format) to write to tape, so as long as you have a compatible drive you should be able to restore whatever you want.
