BE server service gets stuck in "starting" mode

I installed my 9.1 BE for Windows on my Windows 2003 box and forgot to add my serial numbers. The installation timed out and now I am trying to add serial numbers. I successfully added serial numbers and I also upgraded to SP3 but now the BE server service will not start. It hangs with a status of "starting". I can neither stop it or start it. It stays "starting" all the time. What can I do here?

Hi,

Please set Outlook as the default email client. Try starting the service after that.
