BE2012 backup to disk the duplicate to tape recovery from tape

If i backup my exchange database to a direct attached storage device (backup2disk), is the best practice to duplicate it to tape right afterwards? We only have one tape drive and the jobs that run are sepaate jobs that will put what needs to go on tape, on tape and what needs to go on disk, on disk. I cant intermix the tapes.

What kind of recovery do i have if my DAS goes down and I need to restore from tape if I just backup the DAS location to tape once a month/week?

You should not just backup your DAS to tape like ordinary files.  See this document

You should always duplicate your backup sets.

When you do a restore, you would be presented with all the backup sets whether they are on disk or tape.  You can then choose which one to restore.
