Backing Up an NAS Server

I have recently added a Seagate BlackArmor NAS Server to my network because I was running out of space on my server. I moved my data to the NAS device and successfully mapped the network drive so that the data is routed correctly. However, I now cannot discover the network drive as a source using BackUP Exec and therefore cannot back up my data to my removable back up device. Any suggestions?

Hi there,

Check the BEWS 11D Hardware Configuration List...it doesn't display the Seagate device as a supported NDMP device...

ftp://exftpp.symantec.com/pub/support/products/Backup_Exec_for_WindowsNT/282249.pdf

Best bet is to try see if Symantec support can offer you a work-around, but if it's not on the supported list, I don't think it's going to work.

It would be backed up as a network share, a CIFS share, and NOT NDMP.  Only NetApp, EMC, and IBM are certified currently for NDMP, frankly good, the less the better as there are too many restrictions anyways.

The correct way is done within BE under the "User Defined Shares."
