Backup DeduplicationFolder with robocopy

Guschelbauer

Hello!

We use Backup Exec 2012 SP4. We backup the data of our servers (on VMWARE) to a deduplicationfolder on a NAS (connected via iSCSI).

I have there a folder "BackupExecDeduplicationStorageFolder" and it seems that the backuped data is there. Now i want to make an additional copy of this backuped data to a second NAS due to security reasons. Can i simply copy the contents of this folder to a folder with the same name on a second NAS (with robocopy  and mirror-option) and can i use this data in case of a disasterrecovery if the first NAS also has crashed?

Best regards!

Robert

Hi,

No...the minute you try to restore you're going to run into issues with this. BE will have no details on the information on the NAS meaning restores will most likely be impossible.

Best bet is to create a B2D on the secondary NAS and add in a stage to duplicate the dedupe folder to this. It will rehydrate the data to the original size, so this is both a consideration and possible limitation.

Your other option is to have another BE media server connected to the second NAS with a dedupe folder defined. Using the Enterprise Server Option (ESO) and CAS/MMS you can use optimized dedupe to duplicate to the second media server. In the case of a DR event the data is readily available on the MMS.
