Hi,

A little more on our environment first:

Server: HP DL180G6 24GB RAM

2 x Intel(R) Xeon(TM) Processor 2.533GHz Quad core CPUs

1 x 10TB SAS internal RAID volume.

Backup Exec 2010R3 SP4 (+ latest HotFix)

Deduplication store configured on this volume, with plenty of free space.

Now back to our issue:

Every time we run an AVVI backup job, we get the same Warning logged in the backup server's Application event log:

Log Name:      Application
Source:        PDVFS
Date:          17/04/2014 7:46:37 PM
Event ID:      50001
Task Category: None
Level:         Warning
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:      HOSTNAME.domain.local
Description:
A warning from the PDVFS driver: VmdkFilter::RealToLogicalOffset: Offset not found in Grain Table! Backup will continue to proceed but the disk \ may not deduplicate well.

The backup job completes with no errors logged within Backup Exec, but we get the same warning in the event log every time.

I have researched on-line and found the following article, which is vaguely similar. However, it gives a different event description and even states that this is for Linux guests or guests with dynamic disks (we run neither in or environment).

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH162861

I have also opened a support case with Symantec, and the support engineer said that this article applies to our case. However, the event description is not the same and the affected systems, detailed in the "solution" in the article, as already mentioned, don't apply to our set up.

Is anybody else experiencing this warning with their AVVI backup jobs?

Cheers,

David.

There are multiple workarounds available for this type of an event such as backing up to Dedupe without GRT or disabling the DeDupe stream handler etc., however would first recommend to isolate as to which VM(s) backup is generating this event.
