Backup Exec 11d Rev 7170 extremely slow with Quantum SuperLoader3

Hi Everyone;

I just created a backup environment using MS Windows 2003 std with an IBM x3500 ( Dual Xeon 2.0 GB processors, 4 GB RAM and over 500 GB of HDD) and with about 12GB of virtual memory

I have a Quantum SuperLoader3 with 1 magazine and has a drive Certance Ultrium3.  When trying to test the backup environment I can not get more then 4 MB/min performing a simple local backup and when trying to backup remote clients with the remote agents I can not get more then 3 MB/min.

Over the weekend I tried letting the system do its job, but on Monday morning since I only had approximately 20 GB of data backed up and it was not even 25% of my total I had to cancel the job.

Any ideas, I am getting a little desperate since I have to continue doing a lot of manual backup at this point with a different system

All your help is very much appreciated

Thanks
Alex

I am having the same problem.  Since going to 11d 7170, my backup jobs hang and run very slowly.  The twist I have is it is only happening with my Domino server.  All my other Win 2003 servers are backing up fine and about 500mb/min.  My Domino server will only run at about 2mb/min until it finally just hangs and jobs have to be cancelled.

Have you found any solution?  Thanks.

Hi Kevin;

No I have not found any solution, however from what I read in my research this could be due to remote agent running is a poor network environment.

I am in the process of moving all my servers to the same switch and ensure that all is running at the same speed and take it from there.

Currently even my local backup of the Media server does not get me more tehn 4mb/min

Thanks
Alex

I know it's been a while since anyone has posted to this, but I also have a Quantum SuperLoader3 with 1 magazine, DLT-S4 drive.  We are using 11d 7170 and our speed has dropped off as well.  I thought it was server specific, but it's not.  Has anyone found a solution for this yet?

Hello Guys,

Sorry for the delay .... Just checked out this forum thread.
Well here are few suggestions which might be helpful ....
There are various reason for which backup speed can drop down , eg: Windows network performance, fragmentation of server volumes, physical memory, hardware. Most important, make sure your BE is completely patched up
Below mentioned are few links regarding how you can troubleshoot the slow performance issue's ...
