Backup Exec 12.5 Invalid Command error to HP Autoloader

This problem started 6 days ago after Backup Exec 12.5 had been working satisfactorilly for weeks, backing up the SBS2003 server to an SAS attached HP Autoloader.

We get

1117 Device ADAMM error
and error
E00084EE in the B/E log.

We have also noticed that in the System Log there are some LSI_SAS errors suggesting a "dedicated controller error on \device\raidport0, but only some of these tie up with the Backup Exec failures.

As far as we are concerned, there had been no hardware or software changes made at the point where the failures started.

I parallel, we are contacting HP Support for assistance.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

If the issue is reproducible with a relatively small dataset, try using tracer to see what the true error is.
