We have Backup Exec 12.5 installed on a win2k3 server machine. Sometimes Back Exec seems to think that the Tape Drive (a Dell Powervault LTO 2 drive) is offline. If you mark it as online and inventory it fails. In fact I can't seem to bring the device back up unless I restart the machine. The problem is that this is a key machine that people need to access. Without rebooting the machine is there a way to detect the SCSI drive?
You can restart the BE services to try and rediscover the hardware without rebooting.
When the device is offline in BE, is it still visible in Windows Device Manager? If so, restarting BE services may help. If not, you probaby have a hardware issue.
