Backup Exec 16 cannot run if RAS is running

LouisNortje

Hi,

So we seem to be having an issue where a server fails to discover resources on backup exec 16, if RAS is running on the remote server.

This has been an ongoing process of back and forth between veritas and my support team since December 2017, testing indiviual jobs on a daily basis, until last week friday, Feb 2018, a technican found a error code 10054.

This error appears no where else except in Veritas. We now have a scheduled task that stops and starts the routing and remote access in order for the backups to run successfully.

We tried logging a call with MS but the issue is in Veritas not MS.

Has anyone out there experienced the same issues ?

Sounds like you have a network issue more than a product (or operating issue) issue

If RRAS is configured in a way that blocks or reroutes access either:

- against the addressing that the Backup Exec server is using to talk to the remote server

OR

- against the addressing the remote server would use to talk to the Backup Exec server

With RRAS running make sure you can

1) On RRAS server make sure you can connect via TELNET to <BEserverName> on port 6101

2) On BE server make sure you can connect via TELNET to <RRASserverName> on Port 10000

Note: you may also have to do both tests with FQDN names and/or IPaddresses just to confirm what works and what does not and be prepared to install/enable Telnet as Micosoft no longer does this as an OS default.

If the telnet sessions work when RRAS is stopped but don't work when started then you have to fix the networking config that RRAS is managing in order to allow it.

Hi Colin,

Thank you for your response.

There are 5 servers that are all identical, same HW, OS, etc. the only difference is this server runs RAS.

I have preformed the tests you suggested, both FQDN & IP address from the remote server to the BE server on port 6101, and from the BE server to the remote server on port 10000, both tests are succesful.

RAS was running during these telnet tests with clients connected.

Does RRAS itself use port 10000 (or block the dynamic range of ports that have to work as well as 10000)?
