Backup Exec 2010 Tape retention

I was wondering about the time limits of the retention list in BE-2010. The settings are limited to daily (2weeks)/ Weekly (1 month)/ Monthly (1 year)/ Infinitely (for ever).

We have need to keep for 3 years but due to other reasons that "can" change to be shorter or longer.

If we use Infinitely can we "erase" the tape when the time we can reuse the tape has been met and add back to scratch pool?

Yes, those media set time limits are for automatic media management & recycling.  You can always do an erase on ANY media, regardless of its protections settings (unless it is WORM or physically write protected).

As larry says, yes, you can

Or you can simply move the tape volume to the Scratch media set, and  BackupExec will overwrite it when the job runs
