I have 10 computers currently, some runnning on windows 7 and the rest windows XP.  They are connected to a Windows 2008 server R2. I am using Back up exec 2012 and was told I need an agent for my windows 7 to successfully back up? is this true and if so what agents?

Hi,

Unless you were using DLO 7, you'd need the RAWS agent (Remote Agent for Windows Servers) to be installed on the Windows 7 workstation. This would allow you to select drives/directories/files to be backed up.

Thanks!

So each individual windows 7 would need a RAWS agent?

Yes they would. Every machine you back up needs to be licensed to be compliant. If it is just user data on those workstations then you need a RAWS agent per machine.

If you had DLO 7 as your backup solution for your workstations, you'd need the DLO agent which is licensed differently. It comes in packs of x-amount.

But for BE, it is at least 1 RAWS agent per workstation.

Thanks!
