Make sure it is in the Backup Exec 2012 HCL.
Install all the available Live Updates.
How does the device appear in Windows Device Manager?

Does the RDX drive appear as removable or fixed disk in the Device Manager ?
Is BE 2012 completely patched up with at least SP4 ?
Check the adamm.log as well if there any errors listed. (This log is found at \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Logs)

It appears in the list of disk drives in device manager
In My Computer it is named as removable disk
In fact we replaced a faulty rdx drive with a new one
I can create a new folder on the drive
Also, on Backup Exec, on the add storage wizard, disk cartridge, it is detected and i can name it.
Then, however it doesn't appear in the final list of storage devices.

If it appears in the list of disk drives, then try adding it as a Disk Storage and not Disk Catridge in BE.
