Backup Exec 2012 issues with VMware 4 virtual machines

Not able to backup business critical SQL databases on virtual windows servers with Backup Exec 2012 sp1a. This has been the case for three weeks now and Symantec support have not yet resolved this issue. Are other customers having this same poor software service from this product?

What is the error in the job log with which the backup of SQL resources is failing??

Hi Sush. Thank you for responding.

Small progress yesterday with one of the SQL servers..

SQL 2000 server (Win2003 R2) 

V-79-40960-37914 - Database vision is configured to maintain transaction logs. Transaction log backups are not being performed. This will result in the log growing to fill all available disk space. Regular log backups should be scheduled or the database should be changed to the simple recovery mode.

Client-side deduplication is enabled for this job, but it could not be used. Please check this link for additional information:

SQL 2005 server (Win 2008)- never completed and no log. VM snapshot always seems to hang at 95% for days. Only way to proceed is to remove snapshot then try other non SQL servers.

For the first exception please refer to this technote

For the second error use Media server deduplication as Client side Deduplication can not be used for VMware backups as Backup Exec does not install any components on the ESX server or VC.

So just making the changes to the job should solve your problem.

Thanks Sush and VJware. I have passed on your comments to the IT staff trying to sort this out with Symantec support.

Any comment about the other SQL backup job which appears to get stuck at 95% snapshot and makes no further progress?

Have you tried to take the snapshot of that VM directly from the ESX server itself. Is that succesful??
