Backup Exec 9.1 with MS SQL Desktop Ver. 8 installed &used by applications

I just about to Install Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 on MS Windows 2000 Server with MSSQL Desktop Ver. 8.00 installed.

During installation, I choose to use default Backup Exec SQL, but Veritas gives a warning that the SQL is not compatible with the current SQL installed on the system.

I proceed with the installation, when the installation finished, the BE9.1 works perfectly, but all existing applications cannot login to the sql server, until I uninstalled the BE9.1 to make the work again.

Anyone has any Idea on the solution for this?

Hello Antonius!

Because the MDAC version used by Backup exec is 2.8 it might cause the other applications to communicate with the database on which you installed backup exec.

It is recommended to let Backup Exec create a new default MSDE instance.
After selecting this option, Backup Exec will create its own MSDE instance.
Select "Create the default Backup Exec MSDE instance" during the
installation process.

Regards,
Ashutosh
