Backup Exec Cannot Confirm the Topology (Sharepoint 2010)

Greetings.

I'm receiving the following error message when I expand my Sharepoint farm within a new Backup Exec selection list:

...Although the specified server is a SharePoint resource, Backup Exec cannot confirm the topology...

I've seen others experiencing similiar issues, but the solutions they used did not work for me.

I'm running Backup Exec 2010 SP1, fully patched (unless there's some mystery hotfix still out there). My Sharepoint setup is a single-server farm, fully patched. Sharepoint was not upgraded from a previous version, and is definitely a "vanilla" install.

I have enabled debugging for the Backup Exec remote agent and the Sharepoint agent. Here's a snippet from the SPSWrapper**.log:

This repeats over and over whenever I try to expand the Sharepoint farm in my selection list window.

Here is a snippet from my beremote##.log on my Sharepoint server:

[3128] 02/21/12 15:46:32 This is an SPS server, but we failed to get the topology
[3128] 02/21/12 15:46:32 DSEnumerator failed with -536870161: Although the specified server is a SharePoint resource, Backup Exec cannot confirm the topology.  Review your SharePoint credentials, and ensure that the services are running on the Web servers.

[4964] 02/21/12 15:46:32 FreeFormatEnv( cur_fmt=0 )

This happens regardless of which account I used to "connect as" from Backup Exec. I have tried my Sharepoint setup admin (service account used to install), my farm admin (another service account), and my normal backup exec service account. I have ensured that all necessary accounts being used have the correct permissions in Sharepoint and its respective databases.

Any suggestions?

Not mentioned if its 2010 R2 or R3 as R1 does not support Sharepoint 2010...

If compatible version of BE, confirm the following:

- Remote Agent service on the Sharepoint server is running under LSA...

- And do look at KB - http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH125285

Are all of the servers that host your sharepoint farm visible in Favorite Resources and have the secruity certificates been setup (by trying to expand down through those recources and acknowledging the prompt ) ?

Note if you can't see them all in favorite resources then you may have the TLS handshaking issue that is due to be fixed in a coming Hotfix. - or you may not have correctly configured the remote agents to publish to the media server.

Also BE 2010 R3 SP2 is now available - which you will need before you can apply the above Hotfix as well.

I'm not in that office today, but I will investigate both of these issues tomorrow and post my results.

Thanks for your suggestions thus far.

Thanks, VJware.

It appears that we are running BE 2010 (v 13.0 rev 2896), with no mention of R1, R2 or R3, so I'm assuming it's either R1 or prior.

Are you able to tell by my revision number if I'm running R1?

We are in the works of upgrading this installation to R3 and I will reply back when that is complete and we've attempted to create a selection list that includes our Sharepoint farm.

In our case it was because we did not have R3 installed. Once we upgraded to R3, I was able to connect to my Sharepoint farm and configure it for backups.

Thanks.
