Backup Exec DLO Adminstration Service won't start

Came in yesterday morning to check the previous nights job and it failed at about 50% completion.

The error in job monitor said "An unknown error occurred on device 'DELL 1". V-79-57344-34029 - A hardware error occurred.

I also noticed that the Backup Exec DLO Administration Service was stopped and I was unable to start it. When I try to run a job it just stays queued up and eventually fails. I am also unable to run liveupdate to install SP2 for 11D.

I look at device manager and the tape drive looks okay, no errors. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled using new drivers. The device "DELL 1" looks fine under Devices.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there really a hardware failure here?

Without being able to look at the system myself I can't say yes or no to this.  Check your application and system logs to see if there are any errors coming from the hardware.  That is not an error that Backup Exec just makes up.  We get that error message because the hardware sent an error out.

I forgot to mention the application error I am receiving.

I'm in the process of updating the device drivers right now from symantec.
