Backup Exec Migration from 2012 to 2014 on new Hardware

Hey there,

my name is Manuel and I'm new in thos Forum.

Actually I've to migrate a Backup Exec 2012 on old Hardware (Server 2008 R2 Std.) to Backup Exec 2014 on new Hardware (Server 2008 R2 Std.).

On both Server, I disabled all BE Services.

Then, on the old Server, I've started Backup Exec Utility and added the new Server.
After that I started to copy the Database, but this doesn't work. I get the error Message (German):

"Daten aus angegebenen Datenbankdateien kopieren.

Der Zugriff auf die Registrierungsschlüssel des ausgewählten Servers NewServer.Domain.local zum Abrufen der Backup Exec-Versionsnummern schlug fehl.

Speicherortänderung der Backup Exec-Datenbank zu SQL Server-Instanz NewServer.Domain.local mit Fehlern beendet."

In BEUtility, both Servers are marked as "unknown", Firewall is inactive. Both Servers are Domain-Members and the User Account, I do the changes, is Domain Admin.

So, what can I do to solve this issue?

Kind Regards

Manuel

Hi Manuel,

I would do it as follows:

1. Stop the BE services on the current server, and grab copies of the Data/Catalogs folders.

2. Upgrade this server to BE 2014 with SP2 and any subsequent patches.

3. Install BE 2014 with SP2 on the new server.

4. Move the BEDB and other files as per the TN below:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67296

5. Push-install the agents out from the new server to any remote servers.

Thanks!
