Backup Exec System State skipping files

Have been having an issue for a few months now and have never really found a fix.

Have logged it with Symantec tech support and it has been escalated (a few months ago :( now)

Environment:

4 x Windows 2003 R2 SP2 32 bitservers. (DC01, DC02, BK01, SQL01)  All servers, except BK01, have got the BE remote agent installed and running.

Backups are to tapes.

Using Backup Exec 2010 R2

Situation:

Am using backup exec 2010 R2 for backups.  Regardless of the day or type of backup running (either differential or full), it always completes with exceptions.  It will skip 3900 files from the system state when backing up DC02.  I have come across a few forums that recommend creating text files and renaming them to replace the skipped files.  Fine if it is 1 or 2 files, 3900 not so fine.  Below is small part of the missing files.  Loads more in the log.

I have tried:

Reinstalling the agent to DC02,

Fully patched DC02,

Installed VSS rollup patches and hotfixes to the affected servers as requested by Symantec.

Recreated all the backup jobs,

Any advice would be appreciated guys.

Thanks in advance

Well your issue relates to:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955078

So is not really a Backup Exec issue - just Backup Exec being affected by the condition

The sample you provided seems to list most of the entries as being related to Microsoft Applications or Configurations so you should probably start with them as the vendor - especially as that many files listed sounds like a corruption/operating system problem anyway.

BTW is this server actually a domaon controller (or has it ever been a domaon controller) as one of the listed files is NTDS.DIT?

Hi,

Do you need to back up that information? If not, deselect them.

If you do, start by deseleting the folders/System State those files are in, close the selection list, and then reselect them.

Also, make sure that AOFO is on for the job.

Thanks!
