Backup Exec and Exchange

Good Afternoon Folks,

I have 2 years worth of GRT backups of my Exchange 2007 Server. As we begin the transition from Exchange 2007 to 2010, are there any issues or best practices that go along with restoring GRT data from a 2007 tape to a 2010 mailbox?

Maibox restore should work seamlessly between different versions of Exchange. So, Dont see any potential issues there.

Hi Andy,

Since BE 2010 wasn't out 2 years ago, you're using BE 12.5 or a previous version.

In this case, you will have to stage your backup to disk first BEFORE restoring into Exchange 2010. Although there won't be an issue restoring INTO Exchange, the version of BE will limit/modify how you do this.

If you're unsure on how to stage to disk before restoring, read the article below. By the way, BE 2010 and then BE 2010 R2 allow direct GRT restores from tape.
