Backup Exec for Windows Server Upgrade from V 8.5 to V 10

doc 265163 tells that you can upgrade V7 of Backup Exec to V10 by an intermediate upgrade to V 8.6 and that in that case backup media job logs and job setups will be preserved.

When I have an 8.5 installation do I need to take an intermediate step to 8.6 as well ?

Hi,

Refer to the Quick installation guide given below :
VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for Windows Servers Quick Installation Guide (English)
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/263934.htm

With respect to upgrade:

Backup exec 8.5 version cannot be directly upgraded to 10.0.So you need to take an intermediate step to 8.6.Only Backup Exec 8.6 and 9.x can be "directly" upgraded to Backup Exec 10.0 for Windows Servers.

Please refer to the following technote for upgrading to Backup Exec 10.0:

Upgrading from Backup Exec 7.x for Windows NT to Backup Exec 10.0 for Windows Servers :

Thank you,
Gauri

I currently have ver8.5 installed and have already bought the 10d upgrade version with all necessary agents. From what you have mentioned about the upgrade route from 8.5 to 10d, does that mean I have to "buy" version 8.6 and install on "TOP" of 8.5 and then install 10d on "TOP " of ver8.6.

Can I do a clean install of 10d (even though I have upgrade licenses incl upgrade agent licenses) after un-installing 8.5?

Thanks

Generaly BE has evaluation periods, so my guess (though I can't say I've tried it) would be you could download the 8.6 install, run it, and then run the 10d install on top of the on-top install. You don't have to do intermediate upgrades of the agents.
