Hello,

Are you running Backup Exec on a Windows 2003 machine? Please perform the following steps:

At Start | Run, type DCOMCNFG, and press
2. Expand Component Services and then Computers
3. Right-click on My Computer, and select Properties
4. Click on the COM Security tab (for Windows XP) or the Default COM Security tab (for Windows 2003)
5. Click Edit Default in the Access Permissions section
6. Add in the account that is specified for the Backup Exec services, along with the System account, and give them Allow Access rights
7. Click OK, and then OK to close the application
8. Start the Backup Exec services with the user account

Do keep us updated on the issue!

Hi,

I am having the same problem too. I already tried the two suggestions but it is still not working. I am running on Windows Server 2003 and SQL server 2000. Please help!

Hello,

Backup exec services are running under which account?

I've change all of the following jobs to run on local account:

Backup Exec Agent Browser
Backup Exec Device & Media Service
Backup Exec Job Engine
Bckup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Server
Backup Exec Server
SQLAgent$BKUPEXEC

I've also uninstalled and reinstalled Backup Exec but that did not help.

After I change to have all services run on local, I am still unable to start Backup Exec Server. I go this message:

The Backup Exec Server serivce on local computer started and then stopped. Some serivces stopped automatically if they have no work to do, for example the Performance logs and alerts service

We have an identical problem here. Error 13 in Object 14 - NOT the other way around.

The service starts & then stops so BE dies. This seems to have happened after we instal;led SQL2000/sp3 on the BE server. (W2003).

Despite uninstalling BE and reinstalling we still can't start it.

Getting serious here!

Thanks for the prompt reply.

The tech notes reference two (main) types of issue - the registration of the scheduler and COM perms. I've tried both of these and they do not work.

I still get the error 13 in Obj 14 error.

Any more thoughts pls?

David
