Hello,
A few years ago our customer had bought a Backup Exec (v12.5) to be installed on their Windows Server 2003. They are looking to replace their actual server for a new one (Windows Server 2008 R2) Can we re install theit Backup Exec above humm? I am not sure Or does I need to buy a new licence.
Thanks to reply.

Hi,
Just be aware that BE 12.5 does not support Windows Server 2008 R2 as a media server...only a remote agent.
You need to upgrade to at least BE 2010 R3 to get the required support to use Windows Server 2008 R2 as a media server.
To answer your question though, if the OS was supported, there would be no license implications. You would install BE on the new server, move everyting across and update the RAWS agents, and then uninstall it off the old server. License-wise you would be fine.
As things stand you need to upgrade your license to either BE 2010 R3 (would be a BE 2012 license downgraded...a lot of people would recommend this currently!!!) or BE 2012. The licensing department can assist you further.
Thanks!
PS: Moved to the correct forum...

In this senario though, if they purchased a new media server 2012 license, and installed 2012, all the RAWS would need to be upgraded also correct? And if there was no maintenance on these RAWS then those would also need to be repurchased?

...correct!
