We have just installed a new LTO drive (replacing an AIT drive), and now Backup exec will not work. We have an SBS server 2003 and can use windows backup, however, BE will not work with the new LTO.
Just running an erase job failed with the error 0x0008101 - "Invalid Physical Volume Library Argument".
Thanks, but we unsuccessfully already tried this by forcing the update to the floppy disk we were given. Then we removed it from device manager and let it install itself.
Are you using a driver from hardware vendor? Try to use the driver from symantec. Go to backup exec support website to check whether your new type driver was supported for the current backup exec. If it does, you can download the latest hardware driver from the website then go through the install wizard.Message was edited by: Simon Zang
Unfortunately the updated driver failed with the same error in Veritas BackUp Exec.
We are unable to find a driver from Symantec for the TandBerg 420LTO - and according to the compatibility lists it is listed as compatible for BE v10 but not listed at all for v9.1 (which is what is being used): http://support.veritas.com/menu_ddProduct_BEWNT_view_CL.htm
Maybe it's just not compatible ? Maybe we have to upgrade to BE to v10, do you think?
we have found the answer to getting the LTO drive to work with BEv9.1 as follows:
According to Certance, Backup Exec 9.1 does not have the LTO drivers built-in. You have to download the new Device Driver Installation (DDI) program from Veritas.
Here's the link for it (for BackupExec For Windows v9.1):
