Backup engine failing

Hi- I am running 9.1 on an ML350 with Small Business Server 2003. Backups (scheduled or manual) start as normal, but always stall at about 6 or 7 seconds when the Backup Engine fails. The entire job hangs at this point, and will not even cancel. If the Engine is restarted through Services, the job can be re-started with the same results.

I have removed Backup Exec, and reinstalled it and it worked for a week before starting the problem again.

Any ideas?

Try applying service pack 4a.

Hi,

-- what type of data are you backingup ?
-- Is the BE Advanced Open File Option installed and activated for this backup?
-- Have you tried same backup job to a backup-to-disk folder ?

The data is (mostly) exchange mailboxes and working data (Spreadsheets & Doc files), timed to run at 10:00pm so that no-one is using the data when run.
Open File option is not installed.

The problem -appears- to have resolved itself when we deleted the job completely and rebuilt the selections one at a time.
