Backup fails : 0xa0008488 - Access is denied.

Hi all,

I have kind of a weird problem. Every day my backup fails with the message 0xa0008488 - Access is denied.

It is everyday on some mailboxes that the error is generated.

I am running Backup Exec 9.1 on a Windows 2003 server as well as the exchange option and the advanced open file option.

I am sure the account I am using is member of domain admins and backup operators.

Has anyone any idea what could be the cause of this problem ?

I had the same error today, only it was related to a specific directory on a shared drive. Went to the properties of the directory and there is no permissions tab. When I try and open directory I get access denied, and I have full control to the shared directory.

If the problem is only certain mailboxes, I have noticed that if an account is "disabled" in Active Directory (but still exist), their email box will get an "Access Denied" message during backups.

Hi,

According to your query it seems that the Backup Exec service account do not enough rights to perform the backup of an Exchange server.

"0xa0008488 - Access is denied" can also happen if the anti-virus software is accessing the Information tore/exchange mailboxes at the same time as the backup software.
Make sure that the anti virus is disabled as an isoltion process. We suggest you stop the "Anti-Vius" service only during the exchange backup once the backup is done you can restart the services.

We hope this will help.
