Backup-to-disk folders

Hello everyone,
Wondering if any one can shed some light on this. What is the purpose/advantage/disadvantage of the backup-to-disk folder option in 9.1? We recently had a problem and our tape drive died on us. I have since been using the backup-to-disk option for my backup jobs. What I want to find out is that if this is a viable solution to a tape drive. Are there any disadvantages to using this? The throughput is excellent using this option but are there other drawbacks that we need to be aware of?

Regards
Ravi

- You probably wont find yourself rotating that hard disk. Whilst you can keep several different backups on one drive, if it fails at the same time as a server, you're in trouble
- You won't be taking a disk offsite for emergency purposes
