Backups take entirely too long

I am backing up several servers over the network. Some over a private gigabit network, some over public network. Problem I am having is that the total backup time (for 60g) is 6 hours. Yet, if I total up the number of minutes from each individual backup, the total is 2 hours. When I look at the logs, I see it takes 2 hours after one server to start backing up the exchange server, then after that another 2 hours before it will start the last server, In other words, if the backup of one server stops at 3:30am, and the next server in the same job is Exchange, it will start 2 hours later. (As opposed to starting immediately.)Message was edited by:

Some Additional info:
I am reading other documents on this forum regarding Support Document 231488. I can't imagine this being a hardware issue, since all the other servers are backing up quickly, but it takes 2 hours before the next server in the same job starts..

It may or may not nake a lot of difference, but if you turn off Progress Indicators, BackupExec will not attempt a PreScan of each drive before it begins. This probably won't entirely clear the problem, but should at least help.

Where is "Progress Indicators"? Can't find it in the job setup screens.

Also, I removed the problem server from the backup job and created its own job. Last night, it backed up 17g in 1 hour. The job officially starts at 12:05, but the actual backup started at 12:09. Much better.

Hi,

You will find progress indicators in "tools" > "options" > "Settings"
