Can't add servers.

I have two seperate systems that I've installed Backup Exec 2012 to.  It finds our tape backup fine and was able to inventory and catalogue it without issue.  However when I go to add servers that I want to back up under "Backup and Restore" by clicking on "Add" and following the steps it fails every time on both systems.  It has done this both when I have and haven't already installed the Windows agent on those servers.

The error I receive is 0x643 - Fatal error during installation.  The only thing I could find on this was that maybe it was because file sharing was disabled on my Windows 2008 and 2008 R2 servers but I've enabled it since and still receive these errors.

Hi Please install remote agent .locally then , 1 For this please copy raws32 or rawsx64 folder depending on server type if it is 32 or 64 bit from C-programfile-symantec-backupexec-agents folder of media server. 2 Copy this folder to root of C drive on remote server 3 Now form that folder install remote agent using setup.exe 4 Once done use remote agent utility of remote agent to configure publishing with fqdn name of media server 5 once you configure it you will see that server in backup restore console of backup exec 6 now you can backup this server. Please see link below which describes how to install remote agent locally and also how to enable publishing . http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH179142 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH65151 Thanks

Hi Your main goal from above comment looks like you want to do restore of particular server and so you are adding it using add ribbon. 1 So if you want to restore data on those server ,please install remote agent on those server first 2 once install remote agent either using push way trust would be created between remote agent of media server and remote server. 3 if push install fails you have option to install remote agent locally and once installed locally you will have to manually enable trust for that please open remote agent utility for remote agent on remote server and then enter fully qualified name of media server with user name and password below 4 once you do that ,you will see that remote server in backup and restore console 5 now do a small backup of a small file on that server ,by which restore tab would be enabled or it will remain greyed out 6 now you can restore data . Hope that helps. Thanks

Actually, I don't want to do a restore, at least not yet.  These are the servers I want to back up to my tape library using Backup Exec.  Unless I am reading the UI wrong I believe I have to add them under this section in order to make them a target for a backup job.  It has been years since I last used backup exec, am I going about this wrong?

Have you installed Remote agent on the remote servers?

I did.  I also uninstalled it and tried to have Backup Exec push the install as well.  Both times I got the same error.

I followed those steps installing from the folder instead of from the disk and was able to install the agent locally again but after several reboots of both servers the server still doesn't appear in Backup Exec's list of servers under "Backup and Restore".

Whoops, sorry spoke too soon.  It just appeared in the window in Backup Exec.  It just took some time.  Thank you so much for your patience and quick responses!!
