Cannot connect to a server so rest of 'Back up' fails

When backing up multiple servers and for some reason Backup exec cannot connect to a particular server (normally this server is down for some reason) the back up fails and stops. Is there a setting that will 'timeout' this individual server failure after a period and let the backup move on to the next server in the sequence

Is the backup setup as 1 job, or multiple jobs? Regardless of which machine(s) are down, the ones that are up, get backed up if you're running multiple jobs.

If the server is up and BE can't connect, it may be related to Remote Agent running on that server.

Hello Terry,

We would also suggest that you configure separate jobs for each server. This also helps isolate issues and makes troubleshooting easier incase you experience any major bakcup or restore failures.

This will also eliminate the failed status of the job.

Hope this helps.

We run an SDLT tape library and full backup daily of aprox 25 servers in each of 2 jobs therby compressing the data onto 4 tapes. To set this up as individual jobs seems very messy The normal reason for failing to connect is the server is down for some reason, not te BE agent is failing

Hello Terry,
We still would suggest that there be One job per server or two servers at the most.

If that seems as too tedious a job, you can try doing the following:
If you know which server that is (assuming its the same server everytime that the connection fails.), you can delete the selection of that particular server from this existing Big list. Then create a new Job only for this particular server. So you will now be having 2 jobs instead of one. One running on the existing selection list , Excluding the Problem Server. And one only for the problem server. So even if your backup job for the problem server fails the rest of the Servers will still get backedup successfully.

Hope that helps you.
