back up job doesn't run stays queued

the back up just stays in the queued state and never runs. If I do a test run on that backup it runs fine. Does anyone know what I should be looking for or how to fix this?

Anne,

You didn't provide any detail as to what or how you are backing up so I have to assume some things. If your backing up to a "backup to disk folder", the classic issue is that you do not have enough space on the NAS or DAS server to write the file. Check the alerts. Usually there is a message specifying this.

Are you performing the backups on tapes or on Backup to disk folders? If you are performing backups to tapes,
ensure that you have the latest drivers installed. Check the harware compatibility lists if the device is tested:

- Ensure there are no pending alerts under "Alerts" tab in Backup Exec. If yes, respond to them accordingly.

- Disable removable storage (RSM) service. In most of the cases, it has been seen that VERITAS device driver does not work properly with RSM.

- Ensure that you have selected the correct device and media set in the configured job.

- Disable the device by navigating to "Devices" tab, highlight the device, right click and select "Enabled". This will disable the device.

- Next delete the device using the same procedure and selecting "delete".

- Restart all the Backup Exec services

- Run the device Configuration wizard under Tools> Wizards.

- Create a new job and verify the results.
