Good Day,
We are running Backup Exec 15 with a 25TB deduplication storage folder.
What we would like to happen is that when jobs are backed up to deduplication they use up empty space before overwriting old backups.
e.g. At present there is a 5 week retention on the Full backup of a server. After 5 weeks it will start to delete and reuse the older backup’s media even though the space in the deduplication storage is 90% free.
Is there any way we can have it keep creating new media until it hits a certain percent full and then start recycling the old media?
It seems a waste of losing old backups when there is still plenty of space available.
Thank you.

Backup sets in deduplication are time expired thay are not linked to further job operations (other than the keep last complete set default anyway)
As such you cannot do what you ask (for dedup or disk)
Tapes loosely do what you ask in terms of if a tape is not in the drive/library then it cannot be overwritten so the data wil remain on it until it is both in a drive/library and a new job runs that overwrites it.
