Creating a new backup design

Dennis_Matz
Not applicable
I am looking to move away from tape as the initial backup, I am looking to backup to Disk and then backup up to tape. We currently have an HP Storage Works SAN attached to multiple servers via fiber. We also have a CAS server and 6 media servers which are all plugged into the SAN, this enables these servers to backup directly over fiber.

When adding in disk based backups, should each media server be given a its own local drive on the SAN to backup to, or is there a way to create a shared storage drive off of the CAS server.

Any thoughts on this or current examples would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Dennis

Hello,

A Backup to disk folder can
be created on a SAN array using the SAN Shared Storage Option (SSO) if
drives in this array are mounted on the Backup Exec server and are assigned
appropriate drive letters. If the EMC Clarion CX600 drives are seen as
drive letters on the Backup Exec server you can create the Backup to disk
folder on them.
In certain situations, it is observed that if the SAN disk array emulates a
tape library then Library Expansion Option (LEO) of Backup Exec may be
required. Please check the configuration of the EMC Array that you are
using for more information regarding the emulation parameter. Refer to the
following URL :
To create backup to disk folder, Right click on the 'Backup to disk
folders' option in the 'Devices' tab of Backup Exec and select 'New backup
to disk folder'.
Detail information regarding the SAN SSO option can be obtained in the
Backup Exec Administration manual.
