Current Block Size is Incorrect

I'm running BE 9.1 v. 4691. I'm using a SONY AIT-2 IDE tape drive.

After running a week of backups or so, all of the backups start to fail with the

"When accessing a new tape of a multivolume partition, the current block size is incorrect"

I am not able to catalog nor restore from the tapes

I have it set to over-write the tape, not append. My backup job is backing up 4 partitions of data.

I can perform an erase command on the tape and successfully back up. However, I am not comfortable that I will able to perform a restore in the future as the error continues to occur.

What should I set the block size to in the device tab? I didn't think I should override the default settings. It is set to 64K, should I change it to 32K?

Thanks in advance.

In order to troubleshoot the problem, kindly refer the following steps.

Title:- An error message: "When accessing a new tape of a multi volume partition the current block size is incorrect" is displayed when performing an erase media operation.

You can download and install latest device drivers from the following link.

Uninstall the existing device drivers and reinstall the latest Veritas drivers. Run tapeinst.exe to install Veritas driver.
"TAPEINST.EXE" is located in the directory x:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT (TAPEINST.EXE" is an automated installation application for installing tape device drivers )

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/199881.htm

VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20050115) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041231) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only)

We hope this helps. Let us know if the problem still exists and revert back with the error message.

Did you perhaps install w2k3 sp1? I did a while back, and the tape device driver from Veritas was replaced by a driver from Microsoft. The device driver from Veritas for the Sony AIT drives cannot be installed when you have w2k3 sp1 installed it seems. Please tell me if you have this problem too, because if I am correct Veritas need to acknowledge this problem and fix the sony AIT device driver and also warn people not to install w2k3 sp1 until they have fixed the device driver.
