DFS does not backup

Brian_Debelius

Hello,

I have various dfs shares replicating to a backup server. BE will report that it successfully backed up theses folders even though no data actually is backed up.

The way to get these folders backed up is to stop the DFS Replication Service before the job and restart it after the job.

Will someone let me know if I am doing something wrong? Is this a bug? or Is this the prescribed methed to back up DFS by BE?

Thanks,
Brian

Hello,

Kindly install the Hotfix 6 and then install the remote agents again:

Symantec Backup Exec (tm) 11.0 (11d) for Windows Servers revision 6235 (x32) - Hotfix 6 - Multiple issues, DFSR (Distributed File System Replication): multiple groups with replication folders of the same name will not show more than one of the folder; Synthetic backup misses or duplicates directories with double-byte count properties.

Thank You,

Shweta

Hi,

I installed the update, rebooted, and was able to make one backup. After that, they all complete successfully with no data backed up.

Hi,

Is the operating system of the server Windows 2003, R2.?

If so, DFS data gets backed up from the Shadow Copy Components node in the Backup Exec selection list..

This link is now dead!  How about in 1170.10?

Hi

Consult the first TechNote listed below. The workaround is to stop the DFS service prior to backup and back up the files via the file system rather than using the DFSR writer.
The Backup Exec 11d build 7170 Remote Agent service crashes during the backup of Distributed File System (DFS) data using the Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) writer.

You can create a Pre/Post Command to automatically stop the service when the job begins and then restart the service again when the job completes.
