Does anyone know where I can find the Approved process for Backing Up and Restoring Exchange 2003 databases.

Can I use GRT? Or do I have to it old school and mount a RSG?

Thanks

Thanks for the info:

Does anyone know if ESM will install on a 2008 Server x64?

From Admin DOC:

For Exchange 2003, Microsoft Exchange System Manager utility must be installed.

Thanks

So I can restore the entire Storage Group to a RSG just fine. I can't restore individual Mailboxes or Emails.

So can I do Individual Mailboxes with Exchange 2003?

Thanks

You have two choices

1)  The Legacy " brick level" backup.  Extremely slow, completely bypasses single instance storeage, lots of problems reported when trying to restore a single item  (Ex2K7 does not support this)

2)   In your job setup for the Exchange backup, select the option to

"Use Backup Exec Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) to enable the restore of  ..."  (recommended way)

If the backup is on tape, you need to have enough free disk to stage the entire Mail Store in order to extract the desired items

I am not able to use my new install of Backup Exec 2010 R2 on a Win 2008 server to backup an Exchange 2003 database on another network server,  because 2003 ESM will not install on Win 2008.  Do I have any other options to backup my Exchange 2003 from my Win 2008 install?  Thanks.
