Data security on tape media

I actually have three related questions:

Is adding a password to the media the only form of data protection available?

How effective is the password, i.e. can any data recovery firm still access the contents of the media?

What are my options for backing up data with encryption?

Hi,

1) Password is the only option

2) No other company would be able to retrieve it.

3) Encryption is not supported.
