Database Maintenance causes tape drive to stop responding

I am running Backup Exec 9.0 on a Windows 2000 server. Once a week Database Maintenance runs and each time the tape drive becomes unavailable and does not show on the list of devices. If I refresh the device list the tape drive shows up but will not work, backup exec then shows the device as offline and any jobs set to run are queued. The only way to fix this problem and get the tape drive to respond again is to restart the server.

I get a couple of error messages in the log as follows:

This is the first error that appears when maintenance starts:

Event ID: 11
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\adpu160m2.

This error orrurs when I then try to run a job:

Source: 4mmdat--VRTS
Event ID: 11
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Tape0.

At this stage I have turned off Database Maintenance but I believe this to not be an ideal solution.

Any input on this matter would be appreciated.

Install the latest drivers for your tape drive - if it is listed here in the HCL, do install VERITAS drivers:

Update the drivers of the SCSI Controller; the adpu160m is the SCSI controller driver. Event ID 11 is typically a h/w error. If updating SCSI Controller drivers and tape device drivers do not help, try this:
