Backup Set Detail Information
Storage device "IBM 1" reported an error on a request to write data to media.

Error reported:
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

V-79-57344-34029 - A hardware error occurred.


I even re-tried the backup after a manual request for a drive cleaning.

Also, check that you cables and terminator are fully seated
Make sure that you are up to date on firmware and drivers for both your controller and drive

Have you referred the technote given by Ken in the earlier reply?

Also verify if the event id's 7, 9, 11 or 15 are occured in the system event log.

Install latest Veritas device drivers using following link.
