Differential Restore

Hi Symantec

May you please assist if possible

Curerntly I have Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 installed on Windows Server 2012

I have Differential (daily) and Full (weekly) Backup scheduled

Both schedules complete successfully, but my concern is that sometimes on the Differential backup, I get 'This backup set may not contain any data'

and when I check the backup using the backup feature, some folders appear empty, so I get worried when I have to restore from that backup

Is there something I'm doing wrong? How can I restore if the folders are empty

Thank you

Jabu

...have you tried to restore from the FULL and then the last DIFF backup?

Thanks!

Hi Craig and thank you for your response

No I have not, is the Full Backup not a bit outdated since it only runs once a week were as Differential is everyday and say I had to restore something that was lost perhaps a day before (Crash day - Wednesday)

It could be because you are using an unsupported configuration. BE 2010 does not support Server 2012 as a media server. See the SCL below http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH137682

Hope its regular flat file data & not data such as DFSR, Exchange etc.

Secondly, if the Full backup completed successfully & if between the end time of Full backup job and start time of Differential/Incremental backup job, no files are modified or changed, the above alert would pop-up stating that "This backup set may not contain any data". This is expected in such a case.
