ESXi Backup - Credentials successful, but job fails saying credentials are bad

Backup Exec 2012 SP2 running on Server 2008 R2.

Backup job: ESXi

Completed status: Failed

Final error: 0xe0009b61 - Backup Exec could not log on to the server with the logon account specified for it. The logon account does not have valid credentials. Ensure that the user name and password are correct in the logon account.
Final error category: Security Errors

This occurs despite the fact that the credentials succeed when testing the credentials. I thought this was supposed to be fixed with the SP2 update.

Does anyone know what else I can do to get this ESX backup job to run?

Hi,

What is the Version of your ESX?

Which account are you using to backup?

Have you added Vsphere node or Vcenter node or ESX node to backup exec console?

Is it a GRT Enabled Backup?

Hi,

Backup Exec Server 2012 Version 14.0 Rev 1798 (64-bit)

Administrative Console Version 14.0 1798.1244 (64-bit)

I am using the Root account to backup.

I have added an Esxi node to the backup exec console.

I have tried it with and without GRT enabled.

Anybody have any ideas why the credentials are successful here but the backup job fails with invalid credentials?

Hi,

Login to your Vshpere console click on the esx and on the right side go to permissions tab and check if the backup account is added there and has administrator rights. If not add the backup account and give administrator rights and inherit permissions to the guest machines as well and try to back up.

Good luck.
