Error 0xe00084f8 on SBS2011

Hi Guys,

I am pretty new with the Backup Exec so I am hoping you guys can help me to solve the problem :)

I have problem when doing Full Backup on our server. It is a virtual Server SBS2011 with Backup Exec 2010 R3 to an external disk.

I have never done a successfull Full Backup since the first time I install it.  I have update it with hotfixs but still no luck.

It gives me error message " 0xe00084f8 -  The network connection to the Backup Exec Remote Agent has been lost. Check for network errors."

The job is to the local server, not even a remote server. So i guess it is not really a network errors.

I found out that that the backup exec remote agent for windows service(RAWS) is stop working/crash when the error appears.

I did break down the jobs and run it separetly to narrow the issue. These are the FULL JOBS that i have created and the status:

1. Information store   job status successful

2. System state and Shadow copy    job status  successful

3. Database Backup    job status  sucessful

4. Data only Backup  job status  Failed (gives the same error message -  "The network connection...")

I thought the the DFSRoots is the culprit, but when I exclude it from the jobs it still gives the same error.

I have been looking the answers of my problem for weeks (with pulling my hairs off) but i have no luck at all so far.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Riant

Virtualised media servers are never fully tested by Symantec.  The recommendation is to use physical media servers.

If you are using Hyper-V, then you can install BE with the BE SBS licence keys on the physical host and then install a remote agent in the SBS VM for backups.

Hi pkh,

Thanks for your reply. We are using Vmware instead of Hyper V. We have been using Vmware combine with backup exec(number of servers) for quite time and it is doing pretty good.

However this is our first project to combine SBS 2011 with Backup Exec 2010 R3.

Maybe others have similar issue?

If your VM is big enough, then try doing a backup to the internal disk.  If the backup is o.k., then it is either the pass-thru or the external disk is not suitable for B2D folders.

Found out that i have not installed the AOFO on my backup. I installed it and run the differential backup last night and completed for the first time!

I will run the full backup on this Friday (Takes >25 hours) and if it is still fail, i will do the backup to the internal disk ask you suggested.

I will report the result on the weekend.

Thanks

Hi pkh,

The Full job failed again with the same error and the RAWS stopped :(

The job logs:

79-57344-34108 - An unexpected error occurred when cleaning up snapshot volumes. Confirm that all snapped volumes are correctly resynchronized with the original volumes.
 - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "ADL-SERVER01\SBSMONITORING". Advanced Open File Option used: No.

It looks like snapshot volumes issue rather than network issue. What i see is the RAWS crash first and when the backup trying to use RAWS and it fails with the "The network connection to ..." error.

I found article:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH38338

I excluded the .vsp file in our virus scanner list (I am using McAfee) as the article suggested.

Will run the full backup again on friday. I am only running the full backup on the weekend since the server has almost a TB of data and takes around 30 hours.

To be on the safe side, you should delete all the snapshots in the offending machine.

Will do that too.

Thanks!
