Error : a000848c - Unable to attach to one of the drives

I am trying to figure out why I am getting this error when trying to back up the Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group.

I read Document ID: 261150 which says "This error occurs when ARCHIVE - Delete files after successful copy backup is selected in the job definition (Figure 2)."

I checked my job definition and it is set to Incremental - Using Modified Time

My Exchange Server Backup Method is set to INCREMENTAL - Logs and my mailbox backup method is set to INCREMENTAL - Back up changed messages. My Enable Single Instance for message attachments is also checked.

It appears my mailboxes are being backed up and I can recover messages but am still getting this error. What do I need to do to fix this? I am tired of seeing all my jobs fail because of this problem.

Thanks,

We suggest you the following,

1] Check that backup exec service account has sufficient rights to backup the Exchange database.

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/234575.htm

2] For resolving the error message "Unable to attach", refer the following technote,

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/237347.htm

3] If you have upgraded from Backup exec version 8.6 to 9.1 then refer the technote below,

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/239220.htm

4] If you have upgraded from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000, then refer the technote below,

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/236063.htm

5] Also refer this technote,

Hi Vidyaj-

I am running Exchange 2003 and have gone through all the documentation and made the suggested settings changes. It works if I do a full backup but not incremental.

Greetings:

To isolate the issue, you may perform the following:

1. Perform a full backup using NTbackup so that the logs of Exchange are completely flushed.

2. Use Backup Exec and create separate jobs for the file system and Exchange server.

3. For test purposes, please close all third party applications and anti-virus software during the backups.

We suggest you to enable restrict anonymous key as given in the following technote:

Technote:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/238618

We suggest you to reboot the server. Then take the backup using NTbackup utility. Then perform full and incremental backup using BEWS and verify the results.
