Error connecting to user-defined selection

I'm connecting to a server on a different subnet, this server is also not part of the domain. I have added the IP in the user-defined selections list and when I connect it comes up the wth error
"an unkown error occurred within the NDMP subsystem."

Since the support staff don't seem to answer questions, I've had to answer it myself. In this case you need to enable File and Print Sharing on the network interface.
