Error during backup - An error occurred on a query to database msdb.

The last couple of nights our backup has failed with the following in the job log (DC is the domain controller):

-Job Completion Status

Job ended: Thursday, July 27, 2006 at 10:49:51 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0008492 - Database Query Failure. See the job log for details.
Final error category: Resource Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33938

-Errors

Backup- DC\BKUPEXEC V-79-57344-33938 -
An error occurred on a query to database msdb.
V-79-57344-33938 - 0x2000e208 (536928776)

-Exceptions

Backup- DC\BKUPEXEC The item DC\BKUPEXEC\msdb in use - skipped.

I have searched the forums and KB but haven't come up with anything that ties the error with a backup job, only with problems during a restore. Has anyone else had this problem before?

Hello,

Please see the technote to resolve the issue:

Thank you for the idea, but I don't think that technote applies to our situation.

The details of your suggested solution for the technote are:
"Using Backup Exec (tm) 10.x for Windows Servers to back up a remote machine with SQL 7.0 and SQL 2000 installed simultaneously may result in a failure of the SQL 7.0 backup. The error will indicate an error on a query to the database (Figure 1 and 2)."

I don't think this applies because Backup Exec is running on the DC (not a remote machine), and neither SQL 7.0 or SQL 2000 is installed on DC.

If anyone has any other ideas, I would appreciate them.

Thank you

Hello Jason,
Please let us know:
- Is backupexec installed on a MSDE or a SQL instace?
- Is the database local on the DC where you have installed Backupexec or on a Remote machine?
- Do you see any other Error in the event logs?

Thanks
