When we restore individual mailboxes to MS Exchange 2003 the progress meter and byte counts reach some arbitrary value (ex: 42% and 2,254,343 bytes) and then remain at that level for an extended period of time (typically an hour or so). Thereafter the job completes normally, often after pausing again at 99% for a while.
During this extended period, no additional items are restored to the mailbox, and it's size does not increase, but network monitoring reveals a constant upload of hundreds of MB from the Backup Exec server to the mailbox server.
So our question is that if no actual items are being restored to the mailbox, what exactly is this huge volume of data that Backup Exec is uploading to the Exchange server?
