I have a new backup server with Backup Exec 2010 R3. I am trying to backup the Information store on the Exchange 2007 (SP1) server but it is not available on the selection list. I can backup the flat files of the server.
I do have the Exchange agent license.
Troubleshooting:
Uninstalled and reinstalled remote agent on the Exchange server (several times)
Uninstalled and reinstalled the Exchange option on the media server
Did a "repair" of Backup Exec on the media server
Ran BE_Support Tool.exe (in the RAWS directory) on the Exchange Server. No Warnings. (It did originally say that I needed to run a VSS hotfix which I did). Permmissions all check out.
Ran remote agent in debug mode. some dlls "not found": Example: bedsxchg.dll could not be loaded: The specified module could not be found.
The following article talks about this issue with BUE 12. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH58430

E2007 getstoragegroups failed with hr - 0xe000038a for machine = null
This usually indicated permissions issues especially if the BE logon account is not an explicit member of the Exchange Organization Administrators group AND / OR if missing rights per http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH51740
EDIT*** also, check the publishing tab of the remote agent utility on the remote server...it should be publishing the right info

I have Exchange 2007 SP1 and it is not a domain controller.
From the debug:

Does the BE service account has an unique mailbox and is not hidden from the GAL ?

Excellent point. Yes, the service account does have an exchange mailbox, it is not hidden in the GAL and I have logged on to OWA and sent and received messages with that account.
It is also in all the Exchange security groups.

Have a look at - http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH58430

Thanks, that is the same article I mentioned in my first post. I've gone over it several times and haven't found a solution that works.
I'm not sure about #4. I have seen references to the timeout for different versions of BUE and the reg key seems to vary. I'm not sure what the correct key name is for BUE 2010

Do not use AOFO...
Create the registry key exactly as outlined in that KB

I added the key and restarted the services. No luck.

Create a registry key per this KB - http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH65722

Is this is valid for BUE 2010 as well?

Yes, it is valid for 2010 as well

I added the reg key to both the media and exchange and restared the services.
Still unable to view the store.
I started the remote agent in debug mode and attached the log.
I also ran the BE_SupportTool again still no error reported.
Thanks for the help VJ

Did you check LiveUpdate to install all available updates/hotfixes ?
01-31-2012 11:18 AM
This is a new install so I have the latest hotfixes.

quick check - this is a standalone Exch server, right ?
01-31-2012 11:32 AM
Yes, stand alone. No other roles. Not a Domain Controller.

I would try to create a new BE service account (and mailbox and Exchange permissions, see: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH51740 )
