Exchange restore fails (does not start) - A Communications failure has occurred.

Hi,

I'm trying to restore exchange after an IDR recover.

However, when I try to restore. I instantly get the message

0xe000fe30 - A communications failure has ocurred.

and in the log.. V-79-57344-65072 - Connection to the restore target has been lost. Operation cancelled.

In Event Viewer I see the error ' beremote (5388) Unexpected file system error (1231) encountered while opening the restore environment'.

net helpmsg 1232 returns ' The network location cannot be reached.'

I have checked that the default shares have been enabled.

I'm not sure what network location its trying to reach. The backup is located on a USB external drive and I'm trying to restore to this server.

Any suggestions, please?

OK,

Wasted half a day on this little problem but do have a solution. It needs a connected network connection.

I just connected it to a hub (with no other connections) and hey presto it worked. Seems a bit daft, but there we go.

Another solution is to install the Microsoft Loopback network adapter. I'm not sure how this would work with IDR though.
