Export Media 00059 -- The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding

We have an issue that just started all of a sudden since March 11, 2008.
We were runing BEWS 11.0.7170 SERVICE PACK 2.
The server was rebooted on March 10th and since then we get errors when trying to export, import, or inventory the Autoloader unit.

I upgraded to BEWS 12.0.1364 HOTFIX 300699 but the problem is still there.
We have to stop all the BEWS services in order to export or import tapes directly on the autoloader.
 
The server is running SBS 2003 with all up to date security patches.
The tape unit is an Exabyte VXA Packetloader.
 
There are no software or hardware errors in the eventviewer logs.
Any ideas on why this started to happen all of a sudden?
