Hello Bart,

How often do you get this error? Does it occur when a job is running? Follow the steps in the technote below:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/278033

If the issue persists,
:
1. In Backup Exec go to Tools> Options> Preferences and see if "Display Progress Indicators" is checked. If so uncheck the check box for "Display Progress Indicators" and click on the "OK" button to apply the change
2. Try renaming the "Catalogs" folder.

Stop all Backup Exec services
Go to Root Drive:\\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT
Rename the "Catalogs" folder to "Catalogs_OLD"
Start all of the backup Exec Services
3. If the above steps do not help download an run Microsoft Component Checker and verify there are any mismatched DLL's for MDAC.

Hello Bart,

It would be advisable to upgrade your existing installation to Backup Exec 10.1 and then verify if the issue persists.

Symantec Backup Exec (tm) 10d rev. 5629 for Windows Servers Installation Files: http://support.veritas.com/docs/279332

Symantec Backup Exec (tm) 10.1 (10d) for Windows Servers revision 5629 - Service Pack 1 - Includes Critical Security Updates: http://support.veritas.com/docs/282818

Hotfix 19 for Backup Exec 10.1 which resolved the issue

"BENGINE.EXE crashes randomly during backup, restore, catalog jobs, and when opening and closing restore selections lists."

is now integrated in Service Pack 1 and this hotfix updated the Synthetic.dll file version, which just might resolve the issue that you are facing.

Thanks,

Vikas Sharma

Hi,

Please let us know if the upgrade to 10d and installation of SP1 has resolved the issue!

Also update the remote agents after upgrade!
